“M3gan” (2022)
Like every year, there is not much to watch in January. For as long as I can remember, January has been the month when studios dump all their bad movies, and that is even more real for a horror movie, so imagine my surprise when this was one of the best cinema experiences I had in a long time.
In 2019 “Child’s Play” Reboot showed potential, but it keep missing the mark and let’s not even talk about the “Terminator” franchise since T2 they can’t make that incredible and more relevant than ever concept work.
There are always many talks about dynamic duos in the movie industry, but one that sometimes gets overlooked is James Wan and Jason Blum.
Wan is probably one of the most creative and innovative horror minds working today, and even if he is not behind the camera, you can feel his hand in every frame of this movie so when you pair him with the genius behind Blumhouse, that keeps delivering time after time, you can only have a great movie.
“M3gan” elevates the “scary” doll movie into a social commentary about parenting and how just because we can do something doesn’t mean we should.
Gerard Johnstone was an unknown to me, but it is clear he has a great eye and really knows how to build this story and allow the movie to evolve and mutate into this popular social icon through music, dance and messaging.
Jenna Davis and Amie Donald are a perfect combination to build M3GAN. one gives the voice, the other gives the body and the body language; when you combine all this, and you have an interesting Character.
There was no reason for this movie to be this good, but it is, and it is a blast to watch in cinemas and it just kicked started 2023 in a great way.
Have you seen it? What did you think?
