“John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” (2019)

For this review, it is important to get a few things clear first; for a movie like this, we don’t see it and review it in the same light we would an Oscar contender movie or even any movie that the main focus falls on the story and performances, this is not that kind of movie, it knows it, and that is why it works.⁣⁣

“John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” is a 131-minute movie with 90% action and stunts, and not any kind of action and stunts; you get the best you will ever see in any film.⁣⁣

It lost most of the heart of the first movie; this one is about the action and not much more, which makes it fun but at times makes it too much; some of the sequences are too long and lose their importance because they become unrealistic to the point John Wick becomes a kind of superman that survives over and over things that would be impossible for a human being.⁣⁣

But again, it works for the simple reason that they never take themselves too seriously; they want to show us the coolest and craziest things they can do, and then the rest is secondary; with that said, there is world-building and the world they are creating is really cool, but the time that is given to that creation is not enough; still it will probably pay off on the following movies that for sure they will do.⁣⁣

Keanu Reeves once again gives his all to this character, and with no question in our mind, no one else could play this.⁣⁣

This movie also gives us the coolest secondary bad guy with Mark Dacascos, and his character Zero gives a layered performance, and the addition of his cult makes him the most dangerous challenge Wick has had up to now.⁣⁣

The Adjudicator could have been a scary new layer of this world, but I just felt it was there for plot exposition and became really repetitive.⁣⁣

As a movie, it lacks something that the first one delivered, at points, it felt like a video game still we enjoyed it and can’t wait to see more and how they can top this.⁣⁣
