“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” (2023)

It feels like ages ago when we found out they were doing another Dungeons & Dragons movie, and during that time, I have to say I was not confident.

Let’s be honest Hasbro IP’s don’t have the best track record, and if you saw the Dungeons & Dragons movie from 2000, you know we had no reason to feel confident; on top of that, John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein had some experience with comedy, but nothing could make us think they could bring to life a big action fantasy movie, god was I wrong.

“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” balanced the comedy, fantasy and action to perfection, this movie is so much fun, and that is because it knows exactly what it is and why the original game is so much fun.

Every actor in this movie brought to life their character to perfection, and even Justice Smith, who sometimes we are not the biggest fan, stole every single scene he was on.
Chris Pine is charming as ever and really ties the movie together and has great chemistry with Michelle Rodriguez that; in this movie, she shows why she is considered an action star icon.
Again Hugh Grant is hilarious; I cant say he really brings something new to his character; he plays the same character that he usually does, but why change what is not broken?

The movie looks fantastic, and every action scene is really well-built. Still, the biggest achievement in this movie is how it links everything together, yes, sometimes it does follow the paint-by-numbers root by making our heroes go from one place to another to get something that allows them to get to do something somewhere else. Still, they make it up by making this set piece hilarious and with great world-building.

Where the movie failed a bit was in the development of the villain character played by Daisy Head; yes, she was powerful and scary, but we never really get to know what motivates her, and in a movie where every character is so well built up really stands up.

There are so many great things in this movie to talk about, but I would be ruining it, so I will just let you experience it, and hopefully, you will have a smile as I did.

Also, keep your eyes open for a hilarious cameo that I was not expecting.

Have you seen this movie?
