Deadpool & Wolverine

Oh, we have been waiting for this one.

And please, if you don’t want to hear spoilers, give this post a like and come back to it later. Unless, YOU CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH then please enjoy…

What a journey from Deadpool stapling his face with Hugh Jackman’s to his Logan death music box, and now in 2024, where they conquer the chaotic and sometimes confusing Marvel cinematic universe. The cinematography looks like it has been ripped from a comic book. This film is a love letter not just to their friendship but to all of us comic nerds who just can’t help but love this world Marvel has created and the characters that lie within them, no matter how famous or unseen. This one is for the fans.

Deadpool & Wolverine not only keeps up the comedic essence we had fallen in love with in the first two but has made themselves more unique and niche. Their contrasting personalities go hand in hand and just highlight how right Reynolds was when he said that having this moment with Jackman would be magic; their bromance was written in the stars.

We still are allowed to feel the raw emotions and darkness of a Logan movie whilst having the quirky, lovable side that Deadpool films have always brought. Reynolds’ quick jokes and references, blended with the satirical expressions of Wolverine, bring an entirely new life to the comics, and most enjoyably, it is hard to tell when they’re being themselves and when they’re acting.

I would like to give a round of applause and the utmost appreciation to how they went about introducing Logan to this world and not tampering (for the most part) with the Logan we left in his final film. It was a worrying thought to me, as well as many others, to think about how wrong they could have gone with their choices and how dangerous these choices could be to the rest of the franchise.

Thankfully, this film was in the hands of fans and creatives who just knew what their audience wanted and didn’t want to see.

I just wish (and I know they’re saving it for future films) that they could have introduced more of the X-Men to the Marvel and Disney world.

However, I battle this thought with myself because one of my favourite things about the film is how much appreciation they have for the past studios. No matter how much fun they poke at them, they still find a way to show gratitude for the films and characters they gave us; this may have been lost if they focused on bringing new characters. This film was to love the ones they gave us. Chris Evans being the anchor boy for this, since he comes from both worlds, just encourages this idea that The Human Torch is a vital part of his career and still has a place in our hearts as well as his. He knows how much it means to us fans to see him come back. Don’t get me started on Blade… the only one we will ever have. Yeah.

The bloopers in the credits were the cherry on top; I can’t explain how much I used to love to watch those during COVID!

Deadpool & Wolverine is just a joy to watch, and I couldn’t have been more thankful to watch it in IMAX with who I consider my Wolverine… but also who has the sick humour of Deadpool. Big J. If you’re looking for laughs and just a great old time, with old characters and new, Deadpool & Wolverine is the film for you this weekend. I just pray that they keep this up and bring us more of these genuine sweet moments.

One more thing… God Hugh Jackman looks good and we need a petition to keep the mask for future films.

Now, cue Madonna!
