We Live in Time

I thought I knew what to expect from this movie, but nothing prepared me for how deeply it would affect me. By the end, I was an emotional wreck, and even hours later, I still feel its impact.⠀

This is a powerful film with a story that hits like a ton of bricks. That’s why I believe the biggest mistake was not telling it in a linear way. The way it begins reveals so much that I think it would have been far more impactful if we experienced the journey alongside the characters, discovering things as they do.⠀

Still, as the movie unfolds, you find yourself forgiving its flaws more and more. Much of that is thanks to the incredible performances by Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. While they start off feeling a little offbeat, you soon realize why. As you get to know these characters, their awkwardness and imperfections become a testament to a brilliantly written script brought to life by two actors who make you feel like you’re following real people. Their raw emotions pull at your heart and shatter it into pieces.⠀

John Crowley also deserves huge praise. He lets the story unfold without forcing emotional moments. Instead of hitting us with one big emotional punch, he allows wave after wave of feeling to wash over us, building momentum until you’re completely overwhelmed. Nothing, from the highs and lows to the beautiful dialogue, feels forced or out of place.⠀

I absolutely loved this movie. Yes, I wish the editing had been different, but I still feel lucky to have witnessed such a pure love story. It felt so real that it made me laugh, filled me with pride and inspiration, and more than a few times, it made me cry my eyes out. By the end, I just wanted to go home and tell everyone I love how much they mean to me. It made me realize how easy most of us have it and how we often take that for granted.
