“The Menu” (2022)
“Ahhhhh, there are no original movies anymore.”, “Every story was told before, and they are always done in the same way.” yeee guess this movie will shut many people up.
I did not know much about this movie going in, but as it developed, I really did not see it coming, and I loved that.
The movie mixes many genres together and does them all very well, from comedy, thriller, horror and mystery; they all serve as ingredients for this perfect menu.
What is most surprising about this movie is that it comes from a director, Mark Mylod that gave us “What’s your number” and “Ali G Indahouse” which are not exactly movies that would make me think he could deliver something like this, but maybe having Adam McKay as a producer was more of a clue of what it could be and why the excellent cast involved.
Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult and the amazing Hong Chau, that blows me away for the second time in less than a month with “The Whale”, and now this, all bring their A-game.
Ralph Fiennes is creepy and really scary, Anya Taylor-Joy is just cool as hell and keeps bringing these little details to characters that could at times be flat if not for her talent and Hoult that has the talent to make these “innocent” characters really easy to hate.
This movie has a perfect script, a brilliant score and phenomenal cinematography with very cool editing and construction of a narrative that really makes something as simple as food and cooking thrilling to watch.
A must-watch movie that is yet another surprising movie that keeps making this year a great year for movies.
Have you seen it? What did you think?
